Raine Canine Dog Training

About

Built from a lifelong connection to animals

I didn't grow up around horses, but I grew up completely in love with them. When I finally had the opportunity to enter the equestrian world, I knew it was exactly where I wanted to be. I worked hard to earn my place in the industry, gaining the experience, knowledge, and opportunities that eventually allowed me to work with and train horses. Through horsemanship, I discovered the power of pressure and release, timing, body language, and clear communication. I was learning how to speak horse, and somewhere along the way, I realized that learning to communicate with animals had become one of my favorite things in the world. Then came the realization that dogs weren't all that different from horses. The principles of timing, consistency, pressure and release, and understanding behavior carried over in ways that fascinated me.
At just 13 years old, I began training dogs at local dog parks in Florida. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a business, and that business eventually turned into an obsession with working dogs, advanced obedience, and competitive canine sports. My journey into the working dog world opened doors I never imagined. Over the years, my dogs and I have earned national and regional dock diving championships, DockDogs World Championship honors, top 20 national rankings, AKC CDX and UDX obedience titles, and advanced French Ring and PSA protection sport titles. From precision obedience to competitive canine sports, every accomplishment has challenged me to grow as a trainer, but the relationships I've built with my dogs will always mean more than any trophy. What began as a young girl determined to find her place in the equestrian world eventually became Raine Canine, a professional dog-training business established in Florida and now proudly expanded to Maryland. Today, I continue to pursue my education in veterinary medicine with the goal of becoming an equine surgeon, while growing Raine Canine and helping owners discover what happens when they stop simply giving commands and start learning how to speak their dog's language.

Meet the Founder & Head Trainer

Zoë Raine

For Zoë, understanding animals has always meant looking beyond what meets the eye. Her approach to dog training is rooted in both hands-on experience and a fascination with the science behind canine behavior, cognition, and the connection between physical health and the mind.

After graduating high school at just 15, Zoë pursued pre veterinary medicine at the University of Miami, where she spent two years studying animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior. During this time, she participated in two university research experiments involving canine cognition and the brain, exploring how dogs think, learn, process emotions, and perceive the world around them. Understanding the similarities between canine and human cognition deepened her appreciation for the science behind behavior and the importance of understanding why a dog responds the way it does.

Her education extended far beyond the classroom. Through working in veterinary clinics, shadowing veterinarians, and two years of veterinary technician experience, Zoë developed a deeper understanding of canine health and clinical care. Learning to recognize subtle changes in body language, early signs of illness, pain, and medical distress taught her that even the smallest observations can make a life-saving difference. Now continuing her education at Johns Hopkins University, Zoë is working toward her long-term goal of becoming a veterinarian specializing in equine surgery. Her background in veterinary medicine and canine cognition shapes the philosophy behind Raine Canine, where every dog is approached as an individual whose behavior, health, and environment are deeply connected. Because exceptional training isn't just about teaching a dog what to do. it's about understanding how they think, what they're communicating, and why they behave the way they do.

Our Training Philosophy

the dog in front of you

At Raine Canine, our philosophy begins with one principle, train the dog in front of you, not the dog you expect them to be. Every dog is shapes by a complex combination of genetics, neurological development, instinct, temperament, experiences, physical health, and environment. Understanding these influences is essential to understanding the animal as a whole.
We believe in observing before intervening, listening to what a dog's behavior is communicating, and meeting them exactly where they are. From there, we develop an individualized approach that considers their needs, motivations, capabilities, and the goals of their owner.
There are no cookie-cutter programs or universal solutions. Just thoughtful training, clear communication, fair expectations, and a commitment to bringing out the best in the individual dog.
Understand the animal. Earn the communication. Build the relationship.

TRAINING IS A CONVERSATION.

Imagine trying to build a relationship with someone who doesn't speak your language. You have expectations they don't understand, they're trying to communicate things you can't interpret, and somewhere in between, frustration takes the place of understanding. That's the reality for so many dogs and their owners.
At Raine Canine, we believe every dog owner should learn how to speak dog. Training shouldn't be a one-sided conversation where the dog is expected to understand everything we say while we make little effort to understand them. Communication goes both ways, and teaching owners to recognize what their dogs are telling them is just as important as teaching dogs to respond to their owners.
We want dogs that think, problem-solve, and genuinely enjoy working with their handlers. We believe motivation and accountability belong together, with room for enthusiasm, mistakes, learning, and fair expectations. Our goal isn't to create dogs that mechanically follow instructions, but confident, willing partners who understand the world we're asking them to navigate.
At Raine Canine, we don't just teach dogs to listen. We teach people how to speak their language.
